STATE MANDATED CYCLICAL INSPECTIONS
The city of Salem is currently undergoing a citywide State Mandated Cyclical Inspection as required by Massachusetts General Law, Chapter 59.
This cyclical program is mandated by the Massachusetts Department of Revenue. All Massachusetts Cities & Towns must manually check the accuracy of the assessment data of all properties (including exempt) approximately every 9-10 years. This consists of assessing personnel measuring the outside of the property as well as conducting an interior inspection. This ensures that the information in the Assessor’s database is consistent with the actual property and ultimately ensures accurate tax assessments. The Assessors Office will not force a property owner to allow such an inspection, however, a refusal of inspection could result in a denial of any local assessment appeal. *All letters sent are documented
On a mutually agreed upon date and time, a representative of the Salem Assessors Office will visit your property to inspect the interior & exterior for the purpose of determining uniform, fair market value. We will make every effort to arrange a meeting at a time convenient for you. This inspection will typically not take more than 5-10 minutes of your time.
Please call the telephone number below in a timely manner to make an appointment with one of the clerks. If possible, give the clerk the parcel number indicated below or email Gfelix@salem.com
