Parking Tickets

***Please note, the City of Salem is transitioning to a new platform for enforcement and collection of parking tickets. Beginning July 1st, 2024, tickets may no longer be paid through the previous Kelley & Ryan site. This applies to new tickets as well as tickets issued prior to July 1st. To accommodate the transition, online payments will not be available from July 1st until July 3rd. The Collector’s Office will also be unable to accommodate in-office payments on those dates.

Beginning July 4th, 2024, you may pay tickets online at SalemMA.rmcpay.com. The Collector’s Office will re-open to in-person payments on July 5th, 2024.

For mail-in payments, please follow the instructions printed on the ticket you received.

Please also note that tickets issued between June 20th and July 1st may take longer to become available on the new payment system. If you are attempting to pay a ticket and cannot locate the record, please reach out to the Collector's Office or Transportation Department.***

Parking tickets can be paid at the Collectors Office by cash, check or money order.  If a parking ticket is marked and preventing you from renewing your license/registration, these tickets can be paid by cash or money order at the Collectors Office or online with a credit or debit card.  You will need the ticket number and plate number.  Checks/money orders should be made payable to City of Salem.

  • Online at the SalemMA.rmcpay.com.
  • By mail: City of Salem Collectors Office, 93 Washington Street Room 4, Salem, MA 01970

What happens if I do not pay a parking ticket?

If a parking ticket remains unpaid for 21 days, a $10 late fee is added to the original amount of the ticket and a notice is mailed to the registered owner.  If any part of the original fine remains unpaid after 21 additional days, an additional $40 in fees are added. The Registry of Motor Vehicles is notified, and a Mark is placed preventing you from renewing your license/registration.

How can I appeal a Parking Ticket?

You may request an appeal for your parking ticket by e-mailing tickethearings@salem.com.  Appeals must be requested within 21 days, and once the appeal is received the city has 21 days to respond. Per state law, failing to appeal a ticket within 21 days after the date of violation will increase the fine and may result in the state rejecting renewal of the license to drive and the registration of the registered owner. Telephone inquiries should be made to 978-745-8120. At this time, no in-person hearings are being held.

Please note that broken meters must be reported for confirmation within 24 hours.
